The City of Athens has become an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful known as Keep Athens Beautiful. Educating the public, primarily through the schools, has become their major focus to help stop litter. This year they received a gran t fo $3050.00 which they will use in an effort to get people to compost. Athens ISD also received a grant for $5,350.00 which they will use in cooperation with Keep Athens Beautiful to provide their teachers with the proper training in order to implement waste reduction into the schools curriculum.
