...and I saw new cities unlike any I had seen before...

Scotland, Guyana, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austia, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, England, Barbados, Greneda - wonderful lands so distant from home. Places where legends reside and take their daily course. Places where faerie still play in the twilight hours between day and night. These are the places I only dreamed of seeing as a child. Yet, I have travelled to these places now - and I have chased away the misty romanticism from their borders.

Or have I?

Perhaps the desiring is better than the having in some respects; and the mystery more satisfying than the answer; but I am persuaded that the gift these faraway lands have given me is one of familiarity. Not familiarity with landmarks and architecture, but familiarity with people. People who, despite miles and language and fashion and culture, are like me - and like you, I venture. There lies the glory of travel - not the exotic locales and breathtaking vistas as much as the workaday pedestrian stopping at a sidewalk kiosk to buy fruit. We are all really in this together. And none of us is so very different despite our often small-minded opinions otherwise.

But enough pondering. What follows is an electronic photo tour of some of the more out-of-the-way places I have visited over the years. The arrangement is roughly chronological. The photography is a collection of shots taken by myself or friends while travelling or shots taken by others that captured something I didn't get on film myself.
