Want to Help Stop The
Spread of Hoax Emails and Viruses?
If you
receive an email you suspect is a hoax or contains an attached virus, you can help by sending the "full headers" of the
suspected email to Cox Customer Security at
abuse@cox.net.
You can also
notify the authorities of hoax emails by reporting the incident
to the Federal Trade Commission at
spam@uce.gov
. It is
important that you email the "full headers" of the email so that
its origin can be originated. Provided below are ways to obtain the
"full headers" of an email with various email programs you may
be using:
Netscape:
Open the email; go to the view menu; pull the 'Headers' menu
over and click on 'all'. Highlight the headers displayed in the
email and copy them into the email you send to us.
Outlook / Outlook Express 4.0:
Open the email; go to the view menu; select options. You will
see a box labeled 'Internet Headers'. Highlight and copy (right
click, copy) these into the email you send to us.
Outlook / Outlook Express 5.0, and 6.0:
Open the email; go to the file menu; select properties. A box
will appear with a general and details tab. Click on the details
tab and copy the headers of the message from there.
Eudora:
Open the email; find the small button that says Blah, Blah,
Blah; click on that button. You will see the full headers
displayed, highlight them and copy them into the email you send
to us.
Other:
Consult your documentation.
Once you
have forwarded us the message headers, we suggest you delete the
email. We thank you for your assistance in the fight against the
