Need a server for your network that will work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and not crash? How about a server that will run 2-3 years without a reboot? Have you tried FreeBSD yet? Why not? Its free for the downloading at http://www.freebsd.org/ and it can be ordered on a CD-ROM. Yahoo runs it whole system of Search Engine servers on FreeBSD. How many times have you gone to Yahoo and found there site not working? None? This is my exact point. Aren't you glad they don't use NT? Ever heard of CDROM.Com? Ever seen a 137 Terabyte FTP server? Take a look at ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub sometime. They run FreeBSD and their site is never down. Want to know the best thing about FreeBSD? They give you the source code and permission to alter it to your needs. Do you have a Microcenter near you? The sell it on CD-ROM there also. Do you have a HotMail account? They run FreeBSD also. HotMail is owned by Microsoft, and look what it runs. Suprised? It's called Stability. What is the uptime on your windows computer? My average uptime on a FreeBSD system runs between 3 and 6 months between reboots. I do good if I go 6 hours between reboots on my windows computer. Take a serious look at FreeBSD if you need a good server.
