Isom W. Craddick Court Martial

According to his military records at Washington, D.C., he was on 18 January 1865 up form Court-Martial of the Military Court of Lee's (old) Calvary Division held at Meridan, Miss. The accused, Isom Warren Craddick, Private of Co., E., 3rd Division of Confederate Army was arraigned upon the following charges and specifications:

Charge - Neglect of duty

Specification - In this that said Isom Warren Craddick then and now a Private of Company E Confederate Regiment being on duty at the military post of Laudervale, Miss., and having in charge one _____Parsons, a prisoner, did neglect his duty and without leave quit his post and go with said Parsons to Polk Hospital one mile from his post.

The accused Isom Craddick pleaded Not Guilty to both charges.

Lieut. J. A. Brenard testified he did not know of any neglect of duty on part of the accused while on duty.

Sergt. Robert M. Williams testified he was Sergeant in Charge of the Post at the time. Mr. Parsons, a prisoner, came to him several times to let him go to the hospital. He told him he could not let him go to the hospital except with the consent of Lt. Brenard and he refused. He came at last in the company of the accused who said he would take care of him. Sgt. Williams told him he could not consent but he could do as he chose. Parsons and the accused then went off together.

The Sergeant also stated the accused was not on duty at the time.

In the mature deliberation the court found the accused Isom Craddick as follows:

Of the specifications - Not Quilty

Of the Charge - Not Quilty

And the court did therefore acquit the accused.
